Job Summary

The Lead Underwriting Data Analyst plays a key strategic role in business planning, performance monitoring, and decision-making across the P&C portfolio. Responsibilities include optimizing underwriting plans and renewal reporting, providing advanced analytics, and collaborating with Underwriting, Pricing, and Modelling teams.

The role also involves profitability studies, market benchmarking, and supporting regulatory and internal reporting. The analyst leads dashboard development, ensures data quality, and acts as a liaison between business and IT.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years' experience in (re)insurance analytics, strong problem-solving skills, project leadership, and the ability to communicate complex insights to senior leaders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Business Planning and Monitoring

• Strengthen underwriting plan development aligned with strategic and financial goals
• Deliver advanced analytics for underwriting plan meetings, including profitability modelling
• Monitor business performance versus plans and benchmarks, collaborating with Underwriting, Pricing, and Modelling
• Support renewal reporting and deliver timely reports to senior management

Performance Analysis

• Lead performance tracking aligned with pricing assumptions
• Support quarterly performance reviews
• Identify trends, deviations, and profitability drivers; recommend actions
• Coordinate with Finance, Reserving, Pricing & Modelling on data issues

Business Insights

• Conduct deep dives into P&C portfolio profitability
• Perform market and competitive analysis to guide strategy
• Provide tailored analytics to underwriting, leadership, and strategy teams
• Support regulatory, client, and internal reporting requirements
• Translate complex data into actionable business insights

Tool and Data Enhancement

• Ensure underwriting data accuracy, completeness, and consistency, automating processes where possible
• Maintain and improve analytical dashboards to meet business needs
• Act as IT interface to develop and communicate key performance metrics

Required Experience & Competencies

• 7+ years in (re)insurance analytics, ideally in leadership roles across analytics, actuarial, modelling, or underwriting strategy
• Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills with large datasets
• Expert in Excel (Power Query, macros) and data visualization (Power BI, Tableau)
• Proficient in SQL, Python, R, or VBA
• Strong communication and storytelling skills for senior stakeholders
• Proven project leadership and multitasking abilities
• Team player with leadership and mentoring skills
• Strategic, self-driven, and innovative mindset

Required Education

• Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or related field
• Relevant experience may substitute formal education
• Preferred advanced coursework or internships in insurance, reinsurance, or finance
• Progress toward or attainment of actuarial designation is a strong plus
