Location: Bucharest (with occasional national and international travel)

Summary

An established international player in the renewable energy sector is seeking a Country Director to lead their Romanian operations. This is a high-impact strategic and operational leadership role with full P&L ownership. The position requires strong commercial acumen, team leadership, and deep knowledge of solar PV business models. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in scaling business units, delivering complex projects, and driving operational and financial performance.

The business already has an established team and a large, fast-growing pipeline in place, and is looking for someone with prior experience to take the lead in managing and growing this further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction and day-to-day management of the Romanian business unit, with full accountability for commercial performance and profitability.
  • Define and implement short- and long-term growth strategies across development, construction, and operations.
  • Oversee financial performance, including budget setting, margin monitoring, cash flow, and full P&L reporting.
  • Ensure optimal allocation of resources across technical, commercial, and operational teams.
  • Strengthen collaboration between departments and ensure consistent alignment across sales, project delivery, and operations.
  • Support team development by attracting, retaining, and mentoring talent to scale the organisation effectively.
  • Co-develop and execute the commercial strategy in line with group goals, including exploring innovative models such as PPAs, third-party investment, and self-consumption.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, compliant, and safe project execution in line with internal HSEQ procedures and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Represent the business externally as needed – engaging with key stakeholders, clients, partners, and local market networks.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in a general or operational management role, ideally within the renewable energy sector (solar PV preferred).
  • Strong background in managing full P&L and overseeing large-scale projects.
  • Deep knowledge of the local C&I solar PV and rooftop market
  • Excellent understanding of PV business models (e.g. energy sales, PPA structures, self-consumption) and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in high-growth or scaling environments requiring strong leadership, adaptability, and commercial rigour.
  • Confident team leader with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and a strong results orientation.
  • Comfortable managing change and making key decisions under pressure.
  • Fluent in English; Romanian language skills are a plus but not essential.
