Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Java Technical Lead to support a strategic initiative aimed at reducing risk across a legacy platform and preparing for future system displacement. This role involves investigating and implementing innovative technical approaches leveraging automation and modern tool sets to modernize critical applications and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the assessment and feasibility of using Open Rewrite and AI-powered tools to accelerate the upgrade of Java versions from 8 to 11 (or higher)

  • Define the optimal migration path and evaluate suitable build tools for modernization

  • Provide hands-on support to mitigate prioritized risks identified by the Group Protection Risk & Compliance Committee, including addressing licensing and security vulnerabilities

  • Contribute to the migration strategy and execution of the Communication Platform (RCP)

  • Guide the technical roadmap and promote initiatives to incrementally displace legacy systems

  • Act as a senior technical advisor, collaborating with internal stakeholders and engineering teams to ensure high-quality, scalable outcomes

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in leading Java development initiatives, with a strong command of Java 811 migration strategies

  • Expertise in Java build tools and dependency management (e.g., Maven, Gradle)

  • Experience with Open Rewrite or similar code transformation tools

  • Familiarity with AI tools for code migration and optimization is highly desirable

  • Solid understanding of software security practices and license compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to lead modernization projects for legacy systems

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Agile mindset with a proactive and solution-oriented approach
