POSITION OVERVIEW SUMMARY

The American International School of Bucharest seeks a passionate Grade 1Teacher (6-7 year old students) to inspire our students. We are a safe, inspiring, engaging community, committed to inclusivity and belonging for all.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Education & Certification

  • A relevant education degree or relevant field
  • Current teaching certification

Experience

  • Successful experience teaching early years students, aged 2-6 years old, within an international school setting
  • Experience with the IB PYP and/or an international Elementary School environment (preferred)
  • Previous successful experience teaching Grade 1 and/or Grade 2

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively support the school's values, beliefs, curriculum, and practices while engaging in reflective dialogue and offering constructive input to move collective thinking forward.
  • Build a warm, welcoming, and inclusive classroom community where all students feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them.
  • Support students' social, emotional, and behavioral development, fostering self-awareness, self-regulation, and positive relationships.
  • Implement the SEL curriculum and integrate restorative practices to promote empathy, emotional regulation, trust, and resilience. Use inclusive language, materials, and learning engagements that reflect and celebrate diversity.
  • Create and maintain a positive, well-organized classroom environment that promotes inquiry, curiosity, and collaboration; ensuring resources are accessible, effectively managed, and support student agency.
  • Facilitate inquiry-based, concept-driven learning that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
  • Empower students to take ownership of their learning through goal setting, reflection, and choice in how they demonstrate understanding.
  • Apply Tier 1 (MTSS Framework) classroom strategies and a range of practices to remove barriers and ensure equitable access to learning for all students.
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress across academic, social, and emotional domains.
  • Use formative and summative assessments intentionally to guide instruction, provide timely feedback, and help students understand themselves as learners.
  • Engage in data discussions to identify trends, adjust Tier 1 supports, and ensure timely, equitable interventions.
  • Build strong partnerships through open, respectful and proactive communication with parents; providing regular updates, goal-setting conferences, written reports, and digital documentation (Seesaw).
  • Collaborate and co-teach with a range of colleagues to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Work as an active and supportive member of a productive grade-level team.
  • Participate in school improvement initiatives and professional learning to enhance instructional practices, deepen understanding of the PYP, and stay current with educational research.
  • Participate in school events and co-curricular activities to foster a strong and connected community.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably assigned by the Principal.
