POSITION OVERVIEW SUMMARY

The successful candidate will be a key member of both the Early Learning and Elementary teams. They will work closely with our Grade 3-5 Counselor, our Vice-Principal, and other core members of our support services team. The role involves utilising a balance of both proactive and responsive strategies with our students and families; and supporting our faculty with guidance on Tier 1 supports within our MTSS Framework. This position requires both a skilled collaborator and also someone with personal initiative and drive.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Education & Certification

  • A university degree in counseling or a related field (Masters preferred)
  • A school counseling certification or relevant accreditation
  • Proficiency with educational technology

Experience

  • At least 5 years previous experience in an early childhood and/or lower elementary school setting
  • Working with and/or understanding of PYP and/or Reggio Emilia practices is preferre
  • Experience implementing a Social-Emotional Learning curriculum
  • Experience with approaches such as Emotion Coaching, Zones of Regulation, and Circle of Security

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth and remain informed about current research and best practices in counseling and education.
  • Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Principal or Support Services Coordinator.
  • Model and promote AISB's Mission and Core Values in all interactions.
  • Assess social-emotional needs to inform appropriate supports and interventions that enhance learning and development.
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to help students develop personal, social, and emotional skills.
  • Facilitate successful transition processes for the transition from KG to Grade 1, and for new and departing students.
  • Support the implementation of our social-emotional curriculum, including teaching key components of the Keeping Safe Curriculum in collaboration with homeroom teachers.
  • Collect observational data and developmental background information.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring to guide the design of interventions and enhance the support provided to students.
  • Participate in the Student Care processes which identifies struggling students and determines how best to meet their social, emotional, behavioral and learning needs.
  • Collaborate and maintain open communication with students, families, faculty, and external professionals to ensure cohesive support systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to student well-being and support.
  • Develop and apply effective interventions to promote psychological well-being and social, emotional and behavioral development.
  • Lead and support faculty reflection on Tier 1 practices, Serve as a thought partner and facilitator for faculty professional learning related to student care, identity-conscious practice, and well-being.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and presentations, such as Circle of Security, for faculty and families to strengthen the school's social-emotional culture.
  • Contribute to the review and implementation of key policies (e.g. Child Protection, Inclusion policy etc.).
  • Liaise with other local, regional and international professionals (e.g. community mental health professionals).
  • Respond to Child Protection concerns in line with our school policy, procedures and Romanian Law.
