Senior System Administrator

Job Title – Senior System Administrator

As a key member of our IT team, you will ensure the reliability, performance, and security of our IT infrastructure and applications. Your responsibilities will cover the administration of both Windows and Linux systems, virtualization and datacenter operations, backup and disaster recovery, and support for database environments, ensuring peak performance and unwavering data availability. You will also play a critical role in preparing and maintaining environments for new software implementations, collaborating with vendors and internal stakeholders on infrastructure design and architecture.

Main responsibilities:

• Prepare and configure environments for new software implementations, collaborating with project teams and vendors to align infrastructure design and architecture.
• Provide technical support regarding database performance and updated application versions, in collaboration with development, programming, and user support teams.
• Support database administration tasks (primarily MS SQL Server, with exposure to PostgreSQL/MySQL), including installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance monitoring.
• Ensure the stable operation of IT systems and infrastructure (Windows, Linux, virtualization, networking) through administration and continuous monitoring, guaranteeing performance and availability.
• Administer and optimize virtualization platforms (VMware vCenter) and datacenter resources.
• Manage and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam), including the development and validation of strategies, policies, and archiving procedures, ensuring data protection, integrity, and availability.
• Develop and validate backup strategies, policies, and disaster recovery and data archiving procedures to ensure data protection.
• Develop and maintain contingency plans to ensure application functionality.
• Maintain and update procedures covering system administration activities (infrastructure, databases, security, backups, retention), ensuring compliance and preventing misuse or unauthorized access.
• Maintain system and data security through proper access controls and regular patching
• Automate routine tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to increase efficiency.
• Monitor system and database performance, identify issues proactively, and ensure timely resolution.
• Provide support for incidents and problems in collaboration with IT colleagues, developers, and end-users.
• Report to office and department management about any deviations from agreed service levels specific to any problems that arise.

Required knowledge and skills:

• Operating Systems: Advanced knowledge in Windows Server administration and solid experience with Linux server administration.
• Virtualization & Datacenter: Hands-on experience with VMware vCenter, virtualization clusters, and storage management.
• Backup & Recovery: Strong knowledge of Veeam or similar enterprise backup solutions.
• Database: Practical experience with MS SQL Server administration; knowledge of PostgreSQL/MySQL is an advantage.
• Networking: Understanding of networking concepts and ability to troubleshoot infrastructure issues.
• Scripting & Automation: Experience with PowerShell, Bash, or Python for system automation and task orchestration.
• Software Deployment: Experience preparing and supporting environments for new applications, including architecture discussions and integration with existing infrastructure.
• ERP/Business Applications: Understanding of enterprise application requirements (ERP, reporting tools, etc.).

IT Infrastructure Best Practices: Proficiency in monitoring, patching, capacity planning, and performance optimization.

Ideal Profile:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure administration
• Experience in environments with both Windows and Linux servers
• Prior exposure to database administration tasks (SQL Server or other RDBMS)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work on multiple projects, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
• Intermediate level proficiency in English (written & spoken)
• Strong communications skills and a collaborative mindset
