The MassMutual Data Integration Platforms Group
is seeking an outstanding platform engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will work with fellow engineers and enterprise stakeholders to develop, design, deploy and onboard API's and real-time streaming events for the various data driven systems that help us transform the insurance industry.

The successful applicant will be expected to quickly learn new cutting-edge technologies, technical concepts, and complex problem spaces. The applicant must possess advanced programing, knowledge of deploying and implementing devops pipelines and web-based API's enabling business applications and usage at scale.

Current Projects Include

  • Onboarding and supporting API and Kafka developers with best practices and guidelines
  • Research and development of API and Kafka Platform cloud infrastructure patterns, tools and automations
  • Researching next generation API and event driven technologies and patterns to support future enterprise needs

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work seamlessly in an agile environment with engineers, product managers, business analysts, and designers to understand end-user requirements
  • Write tested, robust code that can be quickly moved into production
  • Support-what-you-build, including monitoring, performance tuning, and responding to incidents
  • Supporting on premise and cloud platform environments such as AWS
  • Assist in production setup, monitoring and roll out to partners
  • Active "developer on call" to support maintenance and issue remediation of the streaming services we support: Debugging existing software and correcting defects
  • Writing or reviewing software system documentation and ability to share knowledge is a must
  • Be able to "debug" a code; critically think to highlight where issues are coming from

Basic Qualifications

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a self-driven approach to understanding challenges and identifying effective solutions
  • Enjoys building cloud-based (AWS) tools and automated solutions that empower others to work more efficiently and effectively
  • Experience with Kafka and API (Kong or similar) automation is a plus, but the ability to quickly learn, understand, and apply best practices across diverse technologies is essential
  • Experience with Go (backend/scripting) and JavaScript/TypeScript (React, ) is a plus, but willingness and aptitude to learn new languages is required
  • Proven experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP or others)
  • Treats software development as a craft, consistently writing readable, efficient code and comprehensive unit tests
  • Collaborative team player who communicates ideas clearly and values consensus, humility, and mutual respect
  • Sets high standards for quality while balancing pragmatism and timely delivery; focused on meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work within project constraints
  • Values and produces clear, thorough documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong "team first" mentality, prioritizing team and project success above individual recognition
