The role covers all aspects of

  • Independently Executing standard operational modelling tasks
  • Regularly contributing to the development of modelling methods and tools
  • Coordinating and participating in / executing P&M projects and studies

Starting to provide technical guidance and training of junior staff and interns

Key duties and responsibilities

Support the Cat Modelling with ensuring smooth operations, by ensure pricing and accumulation are timely, accurate and compliant with guidelines and with the catastrophe risk management of SCOR's portfolio.

Executing Standard Operational Cat Modelling Tasks, independently and under the supervision and guidance of more senior staff and team leaders when needed (which can be located either in nearshore or onshore offices), the individual in this role will:

  • Provide treaty reinsurance catastrophe modelling support to onshore cat pricers. Analyze cedant exposure/modelled results received from clients/brokers and import into vendor risk modelling environment for in-house modelling.
  • Deliver catastrophe risk pricing of treaty reinsurance using those vendor models, experience and/or internally developed tools as per SCOR process and guidelines.
  • Support the monitoring of utilized capacity using specific tools.
  • Support the adequate communication and collaboration within the nearshore team and with the onshore teams to ensure smooth renewal process following pricing/modelling guidelines
  • Advise business on best practice
  • Contribute to and lead development and implementation of consistent process and procedures for pricing, and best practices for modelling, including tool development.
  • Training junior staff during the renewal processes and project work
  • Be a reference and lead for one or more markets
  • Develop MGA and Cat dashboards
    Support SBS Cat modelling

P&M activities, processes and methods improvement:

Participate in the evaluation and enhancement of the P&M processes, workflows, methods, tools (xAct, vendor models, new tools, ...), identifying opportunities for automation, standardisation and streamlining to gain efficiency, focus on the creation of innovative and tailor-made solutions adapted to the change in portfolio mix.

Help expand SCOR's Analytical Capabilities:

  • Tools: develop the code, support testing and maintenance, partner with IT.
  • Consult stakeholders to ensure user feedback and findings following release of new tools are incorporated
  • Analyse data to extract insights in support of decision-making within pricing / modelling teams, underwriting functions and management.
    Maintain and streamline dataflows in Pricing & Modelling, P&C, Group, databases (PANEL, ARC Sandbox, Foundry)

Project / Research:

  • Support business as required with appropriate projects on Nat Cat topics.
  • Support projects to answer underwriter-specific queries on hazard, vulnerability and model behaviour.
  • Understand and interrogate vendor models to develop appropriate risk-views for pricing and accumulation.
    Lead research related to better understanding of natural perils"

Mentor junior staff

Be a reference on the modelled risk view for all natural perils in the regions and markets under his/her responsibility.

Required experience & competencies

Required experience:

  • Moderate work experience in the financial services industry, preferably in reinsurance with a focus on analytical and/or actuarial work, for instance the development and structuring of reinsurance products, financial instruments, and pricing tools
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office (Proficiency in Excel). Strong knowledge with SQL. GIS. Programming skills ideally in R or Python.
  • Expertise in using RMS RiskLink/RiskModeller and/or AIR Touchstone user interface platforms"
  • Strong analytical skills. Pro-active, hands-on mentality and can-do attitude. Self-starter and solution oriented. Flexible, can adapt according to priorities. Expertise in digital technology
  • Clear communicator, able to structure an argument and ability to explain complex issues in a simple way. Team player, interested in sharing knowledge and helping to develop the team.
  • Professional Skills in data science, predictive modelling & analytics, machine learning, AI

Professional Programming skills

Required Education

  • Excellent academic qualifications including a minimum of a bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science, other scientific discipline (statistics, physics, natural science), economics or finance. An advanced degree (master's or PhD) would be a plus.

English: B2 level (CECRL)
