Who we are

Founded in 2005, Expert Petroleum (XP) is a private organization focused on enhancing mature Oil & Gas fields to make them safer, greener, more productive and more profitable for a longer time. We typically invest in the rejuvenation of these assets through long term Production Enhancement Contract (PEC).

Our operations are based in the West and Southwest of Romania as well as in the West of Ukraine. XP currently has more than 1,100 employees, is operating 38 mature assets, with 1,300 wells, managing 11,000 boe/day.

About the role

We are currently looking for a Legal Counsel to join our team in Bucharest, Romania

Reporting to the CFO you will be responsible to provide support to the Holding Company and to all the Group's Subsidiaries for all legal and compliance issues.

You'll need to bring drafting and negotiations skills and business sense to deal with multiple functional teams.

You will collaborate with local operations manager as well as with supporting areas (Finance, Admin, procurement & HR) advising and supporting them on legal and compliance issues

Main responsibilities

The Legal Counsel will have the following responsibilities:

  • Managing compliance and corporate governance related matters to ensure the holding and its affiliates are compliant from a legal and corporate governance point of view.
  • Assisting the Procurement department with drafting, reviewing and negotiation of contracts for supply of goods and services.
  • Assisting the Finance department with drafting, reviewing and negotiation of financing agreement (loans, performance guarantee).
  • Review and negotiate insurance contract related to the company operations.
  • Assisting with drafting and negotiation of contracts with Partners and Government.
  • Give accurate and timely counsel to management team in a variety of legal and compliance topics.
  • Deal with external parties: external counsel, holding management and administration services providers, client or suppliers legal counsels.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law with strong academic credentials.
  • 4 to 5 years of professional experience in a law firm.
  • Strong legal experience in corporate and commercial matters.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written in Romanian and English.
  • Ukrainian or Russian are a strong value added.
