Litigation Counsel

RetuRo
is looking for a
Legal Counsel
with strong expertise in litigation and regulatory compliance to support our core legal functions and contribute to the continued success of the Deposit Return System (DRS) in Romania.

This role will play a key part in managing litigation cases — including DRS-related disputes, anti-fraud matters, and debt recovery — while providing legal oversight for the implementation and continuous improvement of major DRS projects.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation Management

• Represent RetuRo in various legal proceedings: DRS disputes, anti-fraud cases, debt recovery, personal injury, contract, employment, and IP matters.
• Handle all stages of litigation — from case initiation to settlement, trial, and appeal.
• Draft and argue claims, defenses, appeals, and recourses before courts of all levels.
• Maintain and organize litigation files, ensuring compliance and documentation integrity.

Collaboration

• Work closely with internal departments (finance, commercial, operations) to gather case-related documentation.
• Manage relationships with external law firms and coordinate their activity depending on case complexity and value.
• Participate in risk analysis by preparing case outlooks and summaries for management or shareholder approval.

Legal Support & Compliance

• Draft and review contracts, notifications, legal opinions, and settlement proposals.
• Monitor procedural deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
• Maintain accurate internal reporting and case tracking, both physical and digital.
• Liaise with bailiffs, judicial experts, and administrators for assigned cases.

Legal Analysis & Strategy

• Conduct legal and case law research; stay updated with legislative changes.
• Evaluate litigation risks and propose strategic or alternative solutions (mediation, arbitration, settlement).
• Support special projects and contribute to drafting or improving internal procedures.

DRS Project Support

• Provide legal oversight for:
• Sale of collected materials.
• Contracts with producers and retailers.
• Debt collection procedures.
• Registration of Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) producers.
• Legal framework for DRS implementation by local authorities (UATs).
• Ensure continuous compliance with evolving legislation and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Law; additional certifications or advanced degrees preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience in civil and commercial law, with strong litigation background.
• Excellent knowledge of civil law, civil procedure, and Romanian jurisprudence.
• Proficiency in English (other languages are a plus).
• Strong analytical, research, and drafting skills.
• Adaptability, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
• Collaborative mindset and excellent interpersonal communication.
• Proficient in MS Office and Windows OS.
