Design Engineer

GENERAL MISSION

The role of the Design Engineer in our organization is to be responsible and autonomous in the engineering of final products, sub-assemblies and components during the development and/or the modification of existing solutions.

SPECIFIC WORKING CONDITIONS
(constraints, working hours, travels)

• The Design Engineer will have continuous relationship with other R&D form the Group.
• He/she will visit often local suppliers and adapt his time following project workload.

REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Master's Degree in Engineering field.
• Relevant experience: Minimum 3/5 years in similar position.
• Technical skills in 3D CAD (Creo, Solidworks), mechanical calculation, material behavior, mechanical drawings, international standards for metal, aluminium die casting and plastics.
• The designer must have all skills to be able to make drawing and definition. Those drawings are the contract between us and supplier, so they must be accurate (tolerances, dimensions, surface result…).
• He should be able to use analytical reasoning and lead meeting with expert to provide robust solution. Those reasoning must be detailed in report to be shared with colleagues for future designs.
• He needs to acquire a "cost thinking" when he create a part.
• Autonomy, accuracy & rigor, respect of commitments.
• Being dynamic and available, give regular feedback.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT

Design

• Be able to create 3D CAD models for mechanical parts and ensure a correct translation into 2D drawings following mechanical standards and best practices.
• Design parts with a special focus on reliability and robustness using necessary tools and methods.
• Be responsible of the conformity and availability of technical data database systems (PLM, ERP,..). It means therefore, to manage the specification folder from the creation of the first sketch to the validated definition and index follow up according to modification.
• Integrate all constraints of design: norms, internal specification and other standards in accordance with all requirements from other department.
• Responsible for drawings updating, develop and any modifications for product
• Analyse supplier quotation with quality and purchasing department to help them to make the best choice.
• Organise design reviews with supplier to confirm the understanding and check the feasibility before GO tooling.

Prototyping and validation

Manage the prototyping of components if needed by internal (3D printing, metal sample,…) or external solutions.

Organise the validation of its designs by implementing validation plan and risk analysis (FMEA) with help of R&D Project Managers, engineers and employes from other departments.

Set up the Test and validation phases for products and modifications

Assure the technical approval (homologation) of components, including quality level requested for the part (tolerance). Organise tests to select the component according to our needs.

Production support

• Ensure that all newly created products or ideas will be successfully transferred from lab status to production status with minimum quality and process concerns
• By following modification and other request from other department to improve quality, cost… and by making proposition and analyse to improve quality, cost, and difficulties to assembly…
• Work in close collaboration with purchasing department to create documented request of quotation for all needs from suppliers. He is responsible to provide technical needs and detailed requirements.

Benchmarking and innovation

• Consider and analyse our competitor solutions and search for the best practices of the sector.Define priorities by purchasing family.
• Gather business intelligence (patents, Technology and competitive intelligence) to identify new Scientifics trends and conduct strategic planning
• Participate in benchmarking and test competitive products to gain relevant information that can be applied to product specifications
• Gather any legal documents including laws regulation and patents, which is relevant to product or affect product performance
