About this Client Engagement

Phi Partners is collaborating with a leading Asian banking group since 2017, delivering services across FO eTrading Technology, Pricing & Risk, and FO Market Data fields. Our client has undertaken a multi-year initiative to enhance their Front Office eTrading System, which we have been supporting since 2020 both across London and NY. Our client, a global banking group, is undertaking a programme to refactor a legacy Syndicates desk application (in-house SBK pricer) to be Cloud-ready.

We are looking for a Java Azure Developer to lead the programme from the FO Technology side - acting as the main Java Azure Engineer, coordinating with architecture, DevOps, and platform teams. You will operate in a highly collaborative, distributed environment alongside developers in New York and Europe, plus a BA gathering requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Rebuild and enhance a Java-based Syndicate desk application using Spring Boot, targeting Azure App Services or similar PaaS models.

• Collaborate with Cloud Architecture teams to integrate Azure-native services, including Azure Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) for authentication and authorization.

• Integrate various Azure services such as Azure Functions, SQL PaaS, SignalR, Service Bus, and Key Vault.

• Participate in architecture refinement, reengineering, and secure cloud deployment.

• Coordinate with DevOps and Platform teams to align on CI/CD pipelines, runtime environments, and platform setup.

• Produce clean, maintainable, and well-documented Java code with attention to performance and scalability.

• Review the current on-premises state and propose scalable, secure, and efficient cloud native solutions.

Key Skills

Required Skills

• 8+ years of Java development (Java 8+, ideally Java 17) including multithreading, streaming, and collections.

• Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring Security.

• Proven track record deploying Java applications to Azure PaaS (e.g., Azure App Services).

• Knowledge of Azure App Service/containers and Azure networking topology.

• Experience with Azure DevOps to automate and manage deployments.

• Knowledge of authentication/authorization using Azure Entra ID (formerly Azure AAD) or similar identity providers.

• Experience integrating SignalR for real-time notifications.

• Familiarity with Tomcat deployments and lift-and-shift modernization approaches.

• Ability to work in distributed, cross-functional teams.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with messaging protocols (e.g., FIX, JMS).

• Financial services background, ideally Fixed Income or Syndicate workflows.

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps and working alongside DevOps, CI/CD, and Platform Engineering teams.

• Prior experience refactoring legacy systems for the cloud.

This is a long-term programme and a senior engineering role, offering the opportunity to work closely with front-office teams and lead the Cloud refactoring initiative for a key business application.
