Data Engineer

Job Description

Core member of our BigData team responsible for building and maintaining robust data pipelines and infrastructure supporting petabyte-scale operations. Design scalable data architectures enabling real-time and batch processing. Ensure data quality, reliability, and availability for downstream analytics and ML systems. Strong foundation in statistics and mathematics required to understand data distributions, sampling strategies, and optimization techniques.

Responsibilities

·       Design and implement scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for petabyte-scale data ingestion

·       Build and maintain data lake/lakehouse architectures on AWS

·       Develop real-time streaming data pipelines and event-driven architectures

·       Optimize data storage formats, partitioning strategies, and compression techniques

·       Implement data quality frameworks and monitoring systems

·       Create and maintain data cataloging and metadata management systems

·       Ensure data governance, security, and compliance standards

·       Build infrastructure for ML model deployment and monitoring

·       Optimize query performance and storage costs across data platforms

·       Design fault-tolerant systems with automated recovery mechanisms

·       Apply statistical methods for data validation and anomaly detection

Requirements

·       Strong SQL optimization skills (complex queries, window functions, CTEs)

·       Proficient in Python/Java for data processing

·       Experience with distributed computing (Spark, EMR)

·       Understanding of data modeling (dimensional, Data Vault, normalized)

·       Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)

·       Linux/Unix systems administration

·       Version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines

·       Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills

·       Statistical knowledge for data quality assessment

Ideal Requirements

·       Mathematics/Statistics background (distributions, sampling, hypothesis testing)

·       AWS Glue, Step Functions, Lambda for serverless architectures

·       Streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis)

·       Terraform for infrastructure management and deployment

·       Data formats expertise (Parquet, ORC, Avro, Delta, Iceberg)

·       Database internals knowledge (indexing, query optimization, statistics)

·       Experience with Airflow/Prefect/Dagster for workflow orchestration

·       Cost optimization strategies for cloud data platforms

·       Performance tuning for Spark and distributed systems

·       Experience with domain-driven architectures
