Senior Data Engineer

Basic Purpose of Role:

Role

As a Senior Data Engineer within a leading European financial institution's e-banking division, you will play an instrumental role in designing, developing, and optimizing data-driven solutions that empower business intelligence, enhance customer experience, and ensure regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for architecting scalable data pipelines, guiding a team of data professionals, and shaping the future of the bank's digital platforms.

Tasks

• Architect, develop, and maintain robust and scalable big data solutions using Hadoop, Spark, and related technologies.
• Design and implement real-time and batch data pipelines for complex banking use cases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, business analysts, and application developers to define and deliver data needs.
• Ensure data quality, security, and regulatory compliance across all stages of the data lifecycle.
• Integrate streaming solutions using Kafka to support near-real-time analytics and business processes.
• Leverage Zeppelin and Python for interactive data analysis, validation, and prototyping.
• Develop and support microservices in for seamless integration of data products into banking systems.
• Design and manage high-availability NoSQL databases, especially Cassandra, for storing and retrieving critical data assets.
• Continuously monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data infrastructure for performance and reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and lead code reviews and knowledge sharing sessions.

Key others skills and Experience

• Proven experience in data engineering roles (12+ years), with a focus on large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in Hadoop, Spark, Python, Kafka, Zeppelin, , and Cassandra.
• Hands-on experience in building secure, high-throughput, and low-latency data systems.
• Excellent understanding of distributed computing principles and data modeling techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to work in regulated industries, ideally in banking or financial services.
• Solid communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proactive, independent, and capable of leading projects and initiatives end-to-end.
• Experience working with Agile methodologies and in multicultural, dispersed teams.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on latest technology trends.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Cloudera, Databricks, AWS, GCP, Azure) are highly desirable.
• At least 12 years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer in enterprise settings.
• Extensive practical knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, Python, Kafka, Zeppelin, , and Cassandra.
• Proven track record in designing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale, production-grade data systems.
• Familiarity with data security, GDPR, or other financial regulations is an advantage.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of another European language is a plus.
• Strong references from previous employers in similar roles.
