we believe that constant innovation is the key to improve the pertinence and quality of the data that we receive from our consumer panel members and app users.
To achieve this goal, we have developed a coding framework that automatically enriches shop receipts and consequently reduces work for our panellists.
As a
Data Scientist,
you'll be part of a cross-functional team of machine learning engineers, developers, and fellow data scientists. Together, you'll help design and build new components of our coding framework, enabling richer insights by enhancing consumer panel purchase data.
Here's a Breakdown Of What You'll Do
- Create Data Science components that will improve our matching framework.
- Develop NLP & machine learning models following prescribed best practices: reproducibility, documentation, coding guidelines.
- Be active as a member of our Agile Team, participate in the definition of tasks, share your findings, raise risks and uncertainty, challenge priorities during our plannings.
- Present your achievements to the team and to broader audience during agile ceremonies (sprint reviews, system demos).
- Learn more about the various areas in YouGov Shopper by working on cross-team projects.
- Create and improve current methods and tools, contribute to refine best practices around Data Science.
- Guide research initiatives by mentoring junior team members, sharing expertise, and leading smaller projects from experimentation to insight.
- Foster Data Science knowledge across the consumer panel organization.
These Are The Essentials For Having An Interview
- 4+ years of experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar role.
- Master or PhD degree that reflects strong statistical / mathematical / computer science skills
- Advanced knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and NLP fundamentals.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with proficiency in ML/NLP libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers).
- Proven experience in developing and scaling machine learning models for production use, ensuring they run efficiently within large-scale data pipelines and real-world applications.
- Experience with data processing and representation techniques for text data (tokenization, embeddings, word vectors, subword models).
- Strong statistical skills: sampling, weighting, Bayesian statistics, statistical tests, correlation, regressions.
- You think beyond the obvious, approaching problems with creativity and innovative solutions.
- Eager to learn, and proactive in supporting teammates—whether it's debugging issues, setting up tools, or sharing best practices.
- nice-to-have skills :
- Experience in MLOps practices (CI/CD for ML, model monitoring, MLflow).
- Familiarity with cloud ML services (AWS Sagemaker).
- Familiarity with AWS or other cloud computing environments (GCP, Azure) and productionizing machine learning models (e.g. expose as REST API, containerization, scalability, performance optimization) .
- Experience with common software engineering practices and framework (version control, testing, agile development / Scrum) .

- Python ML frameworks as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost, statsmodels.
- Python best practices and coding standards.
- Cloud ML services (AWS SageMaker) .
