Optimization Software Engineer – Electricity Markets

Job Description Summary
GE Vernova's Electrification Software's largest Grid Software Global Delivery Center is based in Bucharest. It allows us to bring a significant contribution to the Worldwide Electrical Energy context. We deliver mission-critical solutions that drive the energy transition, focusing on Energy Transmission, Distribution, Asset Management, and Market Management to shape the current and future energy environment.

We are looking for a Software Developer to join our Services team, contributing to the development of advanced software solutions in the Energy domain. The developer will play a key role in implementing and maintaining optimization-based features for Electricity Market Management Systems (MMS), with a specific focus on Flow-Based Market Coupling (FBMC).

Working as part of a team of experienced developers, and in close collaboration with business experts, the developer will support the design, implementation, and testing of new features, while ensuring high code quality through robust regression and unit testing practices.

Job Description
What You Would Work On:
Our teams support software solutions for R&D, services, and support for Electrification Software's products while liaising with stakeholders and customers all around the globe.

At GE Vernova's Electrification Software business, you will join a high-performing team delivering global projects that support decarbonization and drive the energy transition. You'll receive guidance from colleagues and leaders as you develop your skills and understanding of the business.

Key Responsibilities
Within the Services branch of our Digital Energy business, the developer will:

• Collaborate with business experts and product teams to refine requirements and contribute to the detailed design of flow-based market features.
• Implement software components and enhancements related to flow-based and other electricity market functionalities.
• Contribute to the end-to-end development cycle: design, coding, debugging, testing, integration, and documentation.
• Develop and maintain automated regression and unit tests to ensure reliability and maintainability of the application.
• Perform technical analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of software defects.
• Ensure alignment with software quality standards and best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
• Collaborate effectively within a distributed Agile development environment, following DevOps principles and continuous integration practices.

Qualifications

• Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Background in mathematical optimization algorithms
• Experience in the Electricity Market field is a plus.

Desired Skills And Experience
Technical knowledge and experience are expected in the following domains:

• Proven experience in implementing and maintaining software solutions in the energy or optimization domain, preferably as part of a collaborative development team.
• Proficiency in C++ programming. Additional experience in any other modern programming languages is highly valued (Python).
• Strong foundation in optimization algorithms and their applications, particularly in the context of mathematical modeling and computational problem-solving.
• Experience working in Linux-based development environments, including command-line tools and shell scripting.
• Experience with DevOps and Agile methodology.
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub, test automation frameworks, and continuous integration systems.
• Familiarity with Docker, including containerized deployment and service orchestration is a plus

Abilities

• Experience working with international distributed teams across multiple locations.
• Process and methodology oriented.
• Excellent people skills, with a proven ability to communicate within a team; experience with offshore teams is essential.
• Highly collaborative with the ability to work across the organization.
• Capacity to promote continuous improvement.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical designs and solutions to customers.
• Fluency in English is mandatory.
