Senior Data Science Engineer

Ciklum is looking for a Senior Data Science Engineer to join our team full-time in Romania.

As a Senior Data Science Engineer, you will become a part of a cross-functional development team, engineering experiences of tomorrow.

With almost 100 million active users across 25 countries, they're a global food tech company. As a recently formed team, they have many opportunities and ideas for sharing value back to the customers within their continuously expanding platform. They're looking for talented and trusted engineers to help them impress their customers. We are developing next-generation conversational AI solutions that redefine how users interact with intelligent systems. This project focuses on advancing our chatbot platform from pilot to global scale through innovative NLP and Machine Learning applications.

Responsibilities:

• You will generate innovative ideas for conversational AI strategy, craft compelling business cases, and skillfully pitch them to key stakeholders. You'll dive deep into conversation data to unearth valuable insights, translating them into actionable recommendations and strategic direction for the product
• You will be in charge of architecting, developing, and maturing our chatbot solutions as they scale from a successful pilot to a global, multi-market product
•  You will leverage pre-trained language models and AI-as-a-Service platforms while owning the fine-tuning and optimization process through your deep expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML). A key challenge will be to design and implement novel frameworks to evaluate the agent's performance at scale, moving beyond standard metrics to ensure true resolution quality and safety
• You'll collaborate closely with Machine Learning Engineers to deploy, maintain, and enhance these models, ensuring they meet our high standards for performance and are seamlessly integrated into our operational frameworks
• Finally, you will play a pivotal role in our team by fostering collaboration among peers. You'll work closely with fellow data scientists to establish and implement best practices for NLP and conversational AI projects. Your expertise will be instrumental as you mentor junior team members, guiding them through their projects and helping them develop their skills

Requirements:

• Advanced proficiency in data science and machine learning methodologies, with extensive experience applying these techniques in production environments, particularly for NLP tasks
• Proven experience designing and building novel evaluation frameworks for generative AI systems (e.g., using an "LLM-as-a-Judge" approach) to assess quality, safety, and factual grounding beyond standard classification metrics
• Proven experience with LLM agents, RAG, automated pipelines, and tool usage
• Strong understanding of Deep Learning fundamentals and transformer models
• Advanced proficiency in Python (scikit-learn, pandas, NLTK, spaCy, etc.) in notebooks and production-ready code, and strong proficiency in SQL
• Proven experience in getting models to production, scaling, and maintaining them for long-term success
• Strong understanding of software development best practices, including testing, git, code reviews, model lifecycle management, and integrating with third-party APIs
• Experience with Docker containers to support reproducible and scalable environments
• English - upper-intermediate
