About the position

We are looking for a talented Fullstack Software Engineer to join us in our work with National Geographic Society and build the next generation of digital products for explorers, educators, and storytellers around the world.

The role is for Romanian residents, remote, with short periods of travel during the year for team meetings and social activities.

Our work with National Geographic Society is varied and spans across multiple product teams which are aligned with business units. Each team owns a portfolio of products that serves a particular domain or audience. The technology stack is Javascript/Typescript and React for applications and for core APIs, with elements of , , Cloudinary, , Auth0, Algolia, Figma. Operationally we make extensive use of containers, AWS, Gitlab and Datadog.

You will join one of our product teams as an active contributor according to your skills and experience.

What can you expect in this role

  • Work together with your technical lead and team to discover, plan and execute various initiatives that are meant to empower explorers and educators across the world.
  • Take ownership of certain components and coordinate their design and development.
  • Write good, testable software and good documentation.
  • Work closely with your team to contribute to the way we think about products, our quality and development practices and our architectural solutions.
  • Promote our values and help build our presence as a tech company in Cluj.

What do we expect from you

The ideal candidate would be a skilled software product and engineering professional who likes being empowered to make an impact and takes pride in building highly performant software. You would have the experience to build trust, be a good communicator and have a real interest in helping others succeed.

  • Good experience with Javascript/ Typescript, NodeJS or/and React.
  • Ability to operate as a fullstack engineer or a desire to become one. By fullstack we mean you should be capable of defining, storing and manipulating data structures, implementing algorithms, building APIs and robust web user interfaces. Experience with infrastructure operations is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of software development practices, continuous integration, testing.
  • Some experience / knowledge building and deploying products using Docker in the cloud (AWS is a plus).
  • Ability to understand a design system.
  • Comfortable and productive working in agile teams.
  • Good understanding of software design principles.
  • Good communication skills - you will need to be able to reach people with various technical backgrounds.
  • Very good personal discipline and time management skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
