MS SQL / Sybase Database Administrator – Banking Environment
We are seeking a highly experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize enterprise-grade database services within a heavily regulated banking environment. This role focuses primarily on Microsoft SQL Server (60%) and Sybase ASE/IQ (40%), with DB2 exposure considered a plus. Prior experience in financial institutions and familiarity with regulatory compliance is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Operations & Engineering
  • End-to-end management of MS SQL Server and Sybase databases: provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, and decommissioning.
  • Implementation of high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions using:
    • SQL Server Availability Groups, Failover Clustering
    • Sybase Clustering, SRDF (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility) for storage replication
  • Maintain backup and recovery strategies using native tools and Veritas NetBackup (preferred).
  • Performance tuning, query optimization, and index management to ensure optimal system responsiveness.
Security, Compliance & Governance
  • Implement and maintain auditing, data masking, and access controls.
  • Ensure compliance with banking regulatory standards, internal security policies, and audit requirements.
  • Participate in governance forums, service reviews, and audit readiness activities.
Monitoring, Incident & Problem Management
  • Deploy and manage monitoring and alerting frameworks (Guardium, SCOM, ServiceNow).
  • Lead incident resolution, root cause analysis, and escalation management for database-related issues.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and cybersecurity teams to ensure end-to-end service reliability.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Work closely with central and local IT teams to implement secure, scalable, and resilient database architectures.
  • Participate in change management, capacity planning, and documentation efforts.
  • Support onboarding, training, and knowledge sharing across teams and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and automation of routine DBA tasks.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Solid hands-on DBA experience with MS SQL Server and Sybase ASE/IQ.
  • Exposure to DB2 is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Proven expertise in managing mission-critical, high-availability database environments.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, SRDF, Log Shipping
    • Encryption, auditing, data masking
    • Backup tools (native and Veritas)
    • Monitoring and telemetry tools
    • ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence
  • Solid understanding of ITIL processes, especially around change, incident, and problem management.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience in banking or financial services IT environments is highly desirable.

Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
  • Working knowledge of French is a strong advantage to support cross-border collaboration and compliance with local standards.
