The candidate will play a key role in SAB daily plant activities to ensure reliability and consistency on our production line with a novel Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) machine. The candidate will get hands on engineering activities related to manufacturing, assembling, testing and integration of products for the Space industry. The candidate will be part of a team of Space engineers involved on cutting edge ALM technology.
The candidate will be responsible for:
- Set up, operate, and maintain powder-fed DED (Directed Energy Deposition) equipment
- Interpret and work from CAD models, build files, and CAM toolpaths
- Assist with CAM file preparation and adapt toolpaths in collaboration with engineers
- Prepare build surfaces, align fixtures, and ensure correct machine calibration
- Monitor active builds and adjust key parameters when needed to ensure quality
- Perform post-build inspections, basic measurements, and cleaning operations
- Handle metal powders according to safety and material protocols
- Maintain detailed logs, build reports, and support root cause investigations
- Collaborate with engineers to support process tuning, parameter trials, and print development
- Support minor mechanical or electrical maintenance on machine and auxiliary systems
Required technical skills/competences:
- Technical diploma, vocational certification, or Bachelor's degree
- Extensive hands-on experience in CNC machining, welding/fabrication, or laser-based manufacturing
- Fluent in English (spoken and written); capable of reading technical documentation
- Strong working knowledge of metalworking materials and processes (stainless, titanium, Inconel, etc.)
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings
- Proficient in CAD/CAM software
- Familiarity with toolpath generation and basic parameter modification.
- Knowledge of laser safety, powder handling (training can be provided)
- Competent with basic metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) and dimensional inspection
