About The Role
I'm recruiting for a senior tech role at a large, privately owned European technology company operating multiple high-traffic consumer platforms across several markets. The team designs robust, scalable systems and works at the heart of how data is structured, processed, and used at scale. The products are used daily by millions of users across Europe, and engineering and data are central to the company's strategy.
They are building and evolving a high-traffic, consumer-facing digital platform that people rely on for important, high-stakes decisions. This is a backend engineering role with real ownership: you'll help design, build, and operate services that need to be fast, secure, and highly available at scale.
What makes this role a compelling challenge is the combination of scale and complexity. You'll work on systems where availability and performance are not abstract goals - they're daily expectations - and where small improvements can have outsized impact for a very large user base. You'll be part of an engineering organization that's deliberately raising the bar on reliability, observability, and engineering standards, while still moving with purpose and shipping meaningful change.
We work in a hybrid model (four days per week in the office, one day remote) and offer competitive compensation and benefits.
Tasks
In This Role You Will
- Build, evolve, and operate backend services that power a large-scale consumer platform, with a strong focus on high availability, low latency, and predictable performance under heavy load.
- Design and implement well-structured APIs and service boundaries, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability.
- Own production systems end-to-end: from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and incident follow-up, with a mindset of continuous improvement.
- Use AWS as a core part of your toolkit, making thoughtful decisions around scalability, resiliency, security, and cost.
- Improve reliability and observability by strengthening testing practices, instrumentation, alerting, and operational runbooks, and by reducing common failure modes.
- Work closely with other engineers and partners to align on technical direction, make trade-offs explicit, and deliver changes safely in a complex environment.
- Contribute to building the engineering function itself: shared patterns, documentation, code quality standards, and the everyday habits that enable teams to move faster without breaking trust.
Requirements
The skills you bring:
- Strong backend engineering experience in C#, building production-grade services.
- Hands-on experience with AWS in real-world environments (designing, deploying, and running cloud-based systems).
- Experience building secure, scalable APIs and service-oriented architectures (microservices experience is a plus, but not required).
- Solid understanding of data stores and data modeling (e.g., PostgreSQL and/or MySQL); experience with streaming/event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka) is a plus.
- Comfort with containers and modern delivery practices (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD) and an appreciation for automation and repeatability.
- A software engineering mindset grounded in good practices: testing, code review, observability, and operational excellence.
- Confidence working with ambiguity, taking ownership, and making pragmatic decisions with incomplete information.
- Clear, collaborative communication and a respectful approach to working with different perspectives and backgrounds.
