Context

We are seeking a dedicated and technically proficient
Loss Prevention Engineer
to support the
safety and risk engineering aspects of the hull and structural systems
for an FPSO project. Based in an engineering office, the role focuses on
designing, reviewing, and validating fire protection, explosion safety, and escape systems
for the FPSO hull, ensuring compliance with industry standards and integration with topside and marine systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review
    fire and gas detection layouts
    ,
    firewater systems
    ,
    passive fire protection
    , and
    escape and evacuation routes
    specific to the FPSO hull and marine areas.
  • Conduct and participate in
    safety studies
    , including
    HAZID
    ,
    EERA (Escape, Evacuation, and Rescue Analysis)
    ,
    FERA (Fire and Explosion Risk Assessment)
    , and
    Hazardous Area Classification
    related to hull systems.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant
    international safety codes
    , including IMO, SOLAS, DNV, ABS, and API standards, as well as
    project-specific and client requirements
    .
  • Define and review
    safety equipment requirements
    for the hull, such as emergency lighting, safety signage, lifesaving appliances, deluge systems, and gas tight enclosures.
  • Coordinate and review
    interface points between hull and topside safety systems
    , ensuring seamless integration of firewater, ESD, and escape route continuity.
  • Prepare and review
    Loss Prevention deliverables
    , such as Fire and Explosion Hazard Assessments (FEHA), Fire and Gas Cause & Effect Charts, and Safety Equipment Lists.
  • Review vendor documents for fire & gas systems, firefighting systems, and ensure compliance with project safety philosophies.
  • Participate in
    3D model reviews
    and ensure implementation of loss prevention requirements in hull layout and equipment placement.
  • Support the
    classification approval process
    and liaise with classification societies and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Work closely with naval architects, structural engineers, process safety engineers, and system design teams to embed safety into the design from early stages.

Profile & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in
    Chemical Engineering
    ,
    Fire Protection Engineering
    ,
    Mechanical Engineering
    , or a related field.
  • 5–10 years
    of experience in
    loss prevention or technical safety engineering
    , preferably in offshore oil & gas or FPSO projects.
  • Strong understanding of
    marine and hull safety systems
    in offshore floating units.
  • Familiarity with
    fire protection engineering
    , escape route design, gas dispersion concepts, and risk assessment techniques.
  • Experience with
    hazardous area classification
    and equipment selection in accordance with IEC, ATEX, or NEC standards.
  • Working knowledge of industry software tools such as PHAST, FLACS, or DNV SAFETI is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, safety layouts, and system diagrams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in
    FPSO newbuild or conversion projects
    .
  • Previous interface work between hull, marine, and topside safety systems.
  • Knowledge of
    digital tools
    for safety system integration and model reviews (e.g., Navisworks, SmartPlant Review).
  • Familiarity with regulatory submissions and audits from classification bodies (ABS, DNV, etc.).
