Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Cloud Automation Engineer to join our platform team. This role focuses on developing and maintaining automation pipelines for VMware-based cloud services, including IaaS, Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS), and Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS). The engineer will use Terraform, APIs, and scripting to provision, configure, and operate customer workloads across multiple datacenters, while integrating entitlements and billing rules defined in our Service Configuration Records (SCRs).

Key Responsibilities

• Terraform-first automation:
  Build and maintain reusable Terraform modules for vCloud Director (vCD), vSphere/ESXi, NSX-T, vSAN, and related services.
• Integrations:
  Automate provisioning of data and workload protection, including Veeam Backup, Veeam Cloud Connect (via VSPC), Zerto, vCDA, and Trendmicro Antivirus.
• SCR-driven workflows:
  Ensure infrastructure builds reconcile with Service Configuration Records (SCRs) to capture entitlements, billing rules, and service topology.
• Pipeline operations:
  Support CI/CD workflows that integrate Terraform plans, REST API calls, and automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Data & observability:
  Contribute to our homegrown Stash data lake by ingesting operational data (vSphere, vCD, Veeam, Zerto, FortiGate) and enabling higher-order reporting.
• Self-service enablement:
  Work with the Encore customer portal team to expose safe automation (resource expansion, workload protection, network services).
• Ops & support:
  Troubleshoot infrastructure automation issues, resolve Terraform drift, and participate in VMware cloud lifecycle management using VCF/SDDC Manager.
• Security & compliance:
  Ensure automation adheres to industry standards and supports compliance/security reporting.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in
  Python 3.x
  (API integrations, automation frameworks).
• Proficiency with
  REST
  APIs.
• Experience with
  Terraform
  (modular code, state management, providers).
• Experience with
  VMware technologies
  : vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T, vCloud Director.
• Familiarity with
  cloud backup and DR tools
  (Veeam, Zerto, vCDA).
• Knowledge of
  Linux systems, shell scripting, Git, and CI/CD workflows
  (GitHub Actions/GitLab CI).
• Effective communicator with solid troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with
  VCF/SDDC Manager
  APIs for underlay lifecycle management.
• Exposure to
  data analysis tools
  (Grafana/Kusto queries, Pandas/Polars).
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Salt).
• Understanding of compliance/security frameworks in cloud operations.
• VMware or Terraform certifications (VCP, HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate) are a plus.
